About the Artist
Glen S. Hopkinson (b. 1946, Laramie, Wyoming) is a Western American painter known for his narrative-driven works that capture the history, people, and spirit of the American West. Raised in Wyoming in an artist’s household, Hopkinson began painting at a very early age along side his father, cowboy artist Harold Hopkinson. Glen received formal training from noted illustrators Robert Meyers and Donald “Putt” Putman. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brigham Young University and began his professional career as an illustrator before committing to fine art full time in the early 1970s.
Hopkinson’s work has earned lasting recognition through inclusion in the permanent collections of the Montana Historical Society Museum, the Wyoming State Museum, and the Whitney Museum of Western Art—institutions central to the preservation and interpretation of Western American art and history. His paintings are also held in numerous corporate and private collections internationally. Renowned for his ability to visually tell a compelling story, Hopkinson has contributed his expertise to film through storyboards and pre-production design for the pioneer motion picture Legacy.
Working in a style that merges realism with impressionistic warmth, Hopkinson continues to paint from his Wyoming studio, drawing inspiration from the landscapes, heritage, and enduring narratives of the American West. His work is primarily shown in Hopkinson Art Gallery, located in downtown Provo, Utah.
